AstraZeneca Egypt, Ministry of Health announce further strategic cooperation

Training

As part of the ‘Heart Health’ initiative, the pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca Egypt and the Egyptian Ministry of Health announced further expansion of strategic cooperation and partnership

This new level of cooperation comes before the launch of the comprehensive national health insurance system and relates to the sponsorship of 30 physicians attending training at the Escala Foundation in the UK.

One of the main aspects of the ‘Heart Health’ initiative is the implementation of a continuous medical education programme for physicians under the supervision of medical academia and professional societies.

The programme includes grants for training in renowned UK hospitals as well as the study of the UK’s national health system and diagnostic methods. In addition, the programme includes establishing a patient database for easy and accurate follow-up, as well as assisting physicians in related research.

Khaled Atef, country president Egypt, Astra Zeneca, said, “At AstraZeneca we believe in the importance of investing in building capabilities of healthcare professionals and are keen to support their training and upskilling, especially in relation to the latest treatment guidelines and healthcare systems. We fully support all the efforts of the Ministry of Health to develop the healthcare system and improve the services by providing high-quality healthcare to Egyptians, training doctors and contributing to the development of medical facilities.”

AstraZeneca sponsors a total of 30 physicians over the course of three waves. The first wave of ten physicians was carried out in April, while the second that began in July is currently underway.

The first part of each wave is conducted in the UK in cooperation with Escala Foundation and is followed by workshops in Egypt conducted by the international experts and focused on the referral system. Upon training completion physicians will implement the national health insurance system and train their colleagues focusing on the new health insurance regulations which will be applied in Egypt.
