Located at the heart of the GCC, Bahrain is a gateway to Asia, Europe and Africa. In line with the Vision 2030 agenda, Bahrain’s government is embracing the principles of sustainability, competitiveness and fairness, with improving safety and security infrastructure as the top priorities.

In line with the Kingdom’s efforts to protect the environment specifically in the industrial and manufacturing sector, many organisations have strived to apply a social responsibility vision that emphasises their role in contributing to the establishment of sustainable development while integrating the functions of occupational health, industrial safety and environment.

Improving the health of the population is a national priority and will be accomplished through collaborative efforts from the Ministry and the private organisations. By implementing and sustaining workplace safety and health programmes, employers can monitor their processes to ensure safeguards are in place to protect workers from the hazards and keep them happy at work.

Safety and security challenges

Research indicates that a hygienic, healthy risk-free work environment affects the level of happiness employees feel at work.

Safety professionals need to look to the future and define what new technology and data can bring to their industries. New technologies should be welcomed as businesses and organisations look to the future. There is a digital revolution underway in the EHS field - preparation is essential to ensure workforce safety.

Technological advancements

Technologies such as sensor-equipped wearable, digital beacons and augmented reality provide real-time interaction for workers with the work environment and safety/risk management system processes and procedures.

Cutting-edge technologies to be discussed:

-Reducing risks using the EHS 4.0 framework

-Smart and connected firefighting systems – where big data and fire services unite

-Facility security and protection from third-party impacts

-Drones for site inspections and risk reduction

-Impact of Digital Transformation on the workplace, and why it’s an opportunity for health and safety leaders
