Torishima taps Safety Systems Technology for safety

Dubai-based pump specialist Torishima is using the services of UK-based Safety Systems Technology (SST), to ensure safety of its employees at the workplace

Torishima is one of the biggest suppliers of pumps in the Middle East, with many of the company’s products used in large-scale seawater desalination applications. The company has a large machine shop in Jebel Ali, Dubai that is equipped with a wide range of machine tools for manufacture and maintenance of pumps and also houses facilities for product testing and paint spraying.

As a first step in the project, SST provided a budgetary proposal for safety upgrades, working from information and photographs provided by Torishima. Once the proposal was accepted, an SST engineer visited the plant in Dubai and carried out a detailed survey, producing design drawings for the upgrades and generating an accurate quotation for completion of the work. Next, SST produced all the necessary upgrade items and then two SST fitters went to Jebel Ali where they installed and tested the new components.

Achieving the highest levels of safety, in line with internationally recognised standards is a priority for Torishima and it decided to abide by European and ISO standards, as these provide the most up-to-date and compliant methodology for safeguarding machinery. It selected SST as its preferred safety partner on the basis of the company’s proven expertise and capabilities.

All the machines at the Torishima plant in Jebel Ali now conform with a wide range of European and ISO standards as well as those applicable to specific types of machine tools and presses.
