EAMC develops personal protective equipment for UAE’s healthcare professionals

The Etihad Airways Medical Center (EAMC) has partnered with Etihad Engineering to develop personal protective equipment (PPE) to provide an additional layer of protection for healthcare professionals working in medical centres across the UAE

Dr Nadia Al Bastaki, vice-president Medical Services at Etihad Aviation Group, said, “With the high demand for PPE in the UAE, our innovative design team at Etihad Engineering successfully developed 1,000 face shields for us to distribute locally.

“With the logistical support of Emirates Red Crescent, we’ll start distributing the face shields to medical professionals at EAMC and SEHA this week.”

The face shields are developed and manufactured using the latest 3D printing technology from Etihad Engineering and have been checked by the medical team at EAMC.

It is built of a reusable plastic band requiring standard disinfection (similar to a mobile phone) and a disposable plastic shield that can be replaced with sheets found at any stationery store. The face shields will be distributed with additional plastic sheets.

“An overwhelming number of our employees have volunteered to distribute masks and gloves and physically to clean the streets of our capital city as part of the government’s health programme,” added Al Bastaki.

The airline also donates more than 1000 units of essential supplies to SEHA, the Emirates Foundation, the ADNEC Field Hospital and the Trade Center Field Hospital with bags containing activity packages for children and essential bathroom amenities.
